Final Project of Red, White, and Blue Camp

The morning class painted and decorated "U S A" signs. These were individual pieces of wood that we screwed onto the larger wood sign. I love seeing them on front doors in the neighborhood!

Unfortunately, we rushed so much to get these done, that I didn't get any pictures of the process- just the finished projects.

THe afternoon class started with a big piece of plywood and painted an American Flag. We painted stripes freehand without measuring, and everyone added how ever many stars they wanted- from 1-50!

We had such a great week! Thank you to Francie and Abby for their help last week. You both made our week run a little smoother. The next camp is "Holiday Art" July 18. space is still available.

Project # 2 of Red, White and Blue Camp

On Wednesday we paper mached hearts on styrofoam and put them up on a stand. (It seems to rain when we paper mache?) We painted the fronts as flags and wrote "God Bless America" on the backs.

The afternoon class started a BIG dog-earred picket to turn into an Uncle Sam. Which to our surprise the
children had no idea who Uncle Sam was-they should now. They did a knock out job on these, notice the hats, stripes, stenciled stars, fabulous faces, bottle caps buttons, so much fine detail work- Great jobs!

Red, White, and Blue Camp

We had a great camp week last week with 2 wonderful groups of campers.
The first project with the morning session was a 4th of July Angel with flag wings.

The afternoon class made 4th of July angels from gourds. Notice how every one is so different!

The 4 and 5 year old class today painted forsythia and did a great job!

The K-4th grade class did our final tulip still life for the year, and did a wonderful job!

Last day of Winter Art, Monday

The 4 and 5 year old class painted a still life of forsythia (spelling??) They painted the background last week and today started the pot as a square and added a spout and handle. Then the stems were painted adding "V's", then we sponged on flowers from a flower form using 2 different colors. We went outside to look at forsythia and realized that we forgot buds, so we added buds! Aren't they wonderful!

The afternoon class painted a still life of tulips. We did the whole thing today. After painting the background, the boys were listening to directions how to start painting the pot in the shape of a circle...

We are again having a parent-child class to make a Bunny from a fence picket. We have 2 dates to pick from- March 31 or April 14- Come make a keepsake bunny with your child/children. The cost is $20. per bunny. We did make snowmen from cans in the older class this past week, but I didn't seem to get any pictures of the finished pieces. We are painting a still life in ALL classes this week for our final project. Stay tuned for pictures.....

The K-4th Classes make Valentine Pots "Peace and Love"

A finished product! First we started with styrofoam hearts that we paper-mached. Then we painted our pots a solid
color and drew out our design. The next week we painted designs on the pots and painted the heats solid colors, trying to use the same colors on the pots as on the hearts. Then another week later we wrote on the hearts and added leaves and took our masterpieces home! These took lots of steps and turned out fabulous! We were very proud of them - Look how every pot was so different!

Happy Valentines from 4 and 5 year old classes

We painted pots a solid color, then decorated them. Then we cut flowers from rubber and decorated the flowers, painted stems and planted them in our pots and gave them to our mother for Valentines!

Winter Art Classes

Classes started 2 weeks ago and we are busy creating! Today starts week 3.

The 4 and 5 year old classes have made snowmen from clay. This is a process starting with globs of cold clay, following many detailed steps until there is finished product of a 3 ball snowman with hats. Then they dry out for a week and we come back and paint them. The children love coming in the following week and painting the snowmen, they all turned out wonderful! We all know the story of the little girl who dropped her "fragile" artwork in the parking lot and it broke into pieces, so we are all very careful to let an adult carry our snowmen, and we know that it is artwork to look at and not play with (or as one 4 year old said- do not let your little brother NEAR it).

The older classes are still finishing a Valentines pot of hearts. We started this project envisioning "Peace and Love" for Valentines- but the children have taken it in all directions.... We thought that they could paint peace signs on the pot and then we paper macheed hearts that we would paint and decorate and put in the pot -hence "Peace and Love" but they have really gone to town painting the pots with hearts, peace signs, X & O's, lots of colors- they look great! The 3 paper mache hearts are painted also and this week we will just do final touches and they will go home. I wish I had one.

I do have pictures of all the steps making the above projects, but my camera seems frozen- so I will get it fixed and post pictures asap-

We will be starting new art work today - so stay tuned.

Christmas Classes 2010

Below are some pictures of children with finished projects in our 2010 Christmas classes. We had 6 classes with over 90 children this past Christmas. I promise we had boys in the classes, but somehow they seem to not be in any of our pictures. We love our Christmas projects and our children!
